To join the Mayflower Society, you need a proven lineage from a Mayflower passenger and approval from the Mayflower Society Historian General. Anyone who arrived in Plymouth as a passenger on the Mayflower is considered a Pilgrim. It makes no difference what their original purpose was for making the voyage. Passengers known to have left descendants.

To aid in your research, here are several options: Click here  Research assistance is also available at multiple local Family History Centers, e.g. four available locations in Fresno, Visalia, Hanford, and Tulare (Like all Family History Centers, they have valuable resources on-line, microfilm and books.)  “Silver Books” trace the first five generations of Mayflower descendants and are available at local genealogy libraries:  Fresno County Public Library Tulare Public Library | City of Tulare, CA, Genealogy Room; Visalia Branch | Tulare County Library, Annie Mitchell Genealogy Room.   The Patriot to Passenger Project is helpful. Free databases such as Family Search and Census are useful, and there’s free access to subscription databases (e.g. Ancestry) at genealogy libraries.

Membership –General Information on Membership and Junior Membership is available for California residents and others through the California Mayflower Society in Oakland, not thru the Mayflower Society in Plymouth. If you wish to join the California Mayflower Society, please visit the “What you Need to Join” page at the California Mayflower Society website. Do not send supporting documentation or an application fee with the Preliminary Review Form. Your Preliminary Review form will be sent to the Colony Membership Chair (CMC) of the Colony closest to your home unless you state otherwise.  There are 13 Colonies in the State of California, the CMC manages your Preliminary Review Form application. If your line maybe a possible line to a passenger from the Mayflower, you will receive a “Preliminary Application for Membership” form to be completed and returned with the appropriate fee. After your fee is received, the Colony Membership Chair will prepare a worksheet and return it on how to document and complete the worksheet with instructions for you to return the Worksheet and documentation to the Historian.
