San Joaquin Valley Colony Scholarship Results

Both of our SJVC Scholarships, 1st Prize $500 and 2nd Prize $250, went unclaimed this year due to the fact that no one entered.  At the moment there is no scholarship contest for the upcoming academic school year.  Check future newsletters and our website for more information.

Statewide Scholarship Results To Be Announced Soon

The Society of Mayflower Descendants in the State of California has completed judging all entries for the 2020 Scholarship program.  Three winners will be announced sometime in the near future. Their essays will be printed in the summer edition of the California Mayflower Quarterly.  The three judges, all from different colonies, have backgrounds in the field of education.  One of the 3 judges was Faith Haag, our colony Treasurer.  Faith stated, “I was honored to be one of the judges for the State Mayflower Scholarship Committee.  I was so impressed by the applicants–they should make us all proud with their accomplishments!”

Larry Beston, our colony Secretary, served as the Scholarship and Education Chair.  In this role Larry, like Faith, was able to read all entries, including one from our colony.  Larry stated, “Andrew Stewart, a Clovis High School graduate, submitted an exceptionally strong application.  While not a scholarship winner he excelled among a very strong field of applicants. This colony is very proud to have the Stewart family as members.”
